SOLD - NURTURE
A young loon rides safely upon the back of its parent, sheltered by the calm strength and quiet vigilance that define one of Canada’s most iconic waterbirds. Nurture celebrates the enduring bond between parent and offspring—a timeless expression of protection, guidance, and unconditional care.
Carved from black chlorite stone, this sculpture captures the elegant form of the common loon through flowing lines and a serene, floating posture. The distinctive plumage has been recreated through hand-etched feather patterns, creating a striking contrast against the deep black stone. A generous application of hardened beeswax enriches the surface, enhancing the stone’s natural depth and providing a soft, lustrous sheen.
The eyes are carefully deep-inlaid with red alabaster, adding warmth and life to the composition while drawing attention to the watchful presence of the adult bird. Resting securely upon its parent’s back, the young loon becomes the focal point of the sculpture’s narrative—an intimate reminder of trust, safety, and the quiet lessons passed from one generation to the next.
Nurture reflects the peaceful rhythms of northern lakes and the universal instinct to protect and care for those entrusted to us.
